Live event PR emails

I’ve been writing PR emails to market and publicise the Liverpool Acoustic live music events since they started in February 2009.

I use an online system called Mailchimp, and over time have built up a mailing list comprising of local media contacts, musicians playing our events, people who have signed up at our live events, and people who have signed up online.

Liverpool Acoustic Spotlight

liverpoolacoustic.co.uk/spotlight

  • Started: May 2008
  • Type of show: acoustic music
  • Frequency: twice per month

The Liverpool Acoustic Spotlight started in May 2008, a month after the Liverpool Acoustic website was launched. Initially I took one local artist for each monthly show and played four of their songs, with biographical information read out between them.

In March 2009 I changed the format to showcase the music from the artists appearing at the Liverpool Acoustic Live events I’d started the month before.

In February 2011 I introduced an extra show each month to tie in with the Liverpool Acoustic eXtra live events that Stuart Todd started with another local musician, Barry Briercliffe. Some of these shows were recorded by Barry. When the regular eXtra events came to an end in September 2011 I continued the second monthly episode and used it to feature songs submitted to me by other musicians on the local scene.

It’s A Frog’s Life Acoustic Podcast

itsafrogslife.net/podcast

  • Started: July 2006
  • Type of show: acoustic music
  • Frequency: monthly
  • Other portfolio entry: website

The It’s A Frog’s Life Acoustic Podcast is my first show. Started in July 2006, it features some of the best unsigned, independent and podsafe acoustic music from across the UK and around the world.

Because of copyright laws I can only play music that I have permission for. Fortunately there are hundreds of musicians who own the copyright to their music and are more than willing to let me share it with the rest of the world in exchange for a little bit of extra exposure and free publicity. Also, there are some websites where ‘podsafe’ and creative commons music is available for podcasters to use.

The show became accepted as a member of the Association of Music Podcasting in October 2006. In 2009 the show came second in the music category of the Podcast Peer Awards.

For five and a half years the show only played acoustic music from the UK (with occasional journeys overseas). In February 2012 the format was changed from just UK music to artists from around the world, and the number of tracks in each show was increased from eight to ten.

Peter Cowley (Fatea Magazine)

What a great evening! Graham Holland and his Liverpool Acoustic team have done it again! Tonight we had performances from four exceptionally talented artists, in the delightful ambience of the View Two Gallery, and all for the price of a couple of pints. I don’t know how they do it!

Operation Icicle

itsafrogslife.net/oi

  • Created: 2000
  • Type of site: static html

As mentioned on the Good Book of Peter Henry page, I took part in Operation Icicle in 1998 and 2000. This was a winter survival camp held at Camp Freeland Leslie in Oxford, Wisconsin from 26th December to 1st January. During the event a daily newspaper was produced by some of the Scouts attending the camp. I took the newspapers from the two years I attended, and the year I missed in between, and turned them into a website. As you can see from the photos, it was cold. Very cold. But lots of fun too!

It’s A Frog’s Life In Taiwan

  • Created: 2004
  • Type of site: static html

It's A Frog's Life in TaiwanI spent a year living and working in Taiwan from 2004 to 2005. One of the things that kept me occupied (apart from working, eating fantastic food, and watching HBO) was putting together a little website documenting some of my observations about living in such an exciting and vibrant country. This website was run alongside my Bravenet blog (available here, but no longer active) which focused more on my day-to-day observations and reviewing books I’d read.

The website is now, of course, hideously out of date, but I’ve kept it as a record of my time in Taiwan. I still get the occasional email about it.

I particularly enjoy the sound clips, and the coffee logo section. Why not check it out?
